Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Oil 8-inch pan. Mix together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in one bowl. In the next bowl, mix in cream the butter and sugar. Add the vanilla extract. Add in the flour mixture and blend until smooth. Add the applesauce and fold. Put mixture in the 8-inch pan and cook for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick is clean.
